Fourth of July Fun
 July 4

All About the Fourth of July

  • THE HISTORY:  The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day has been a federal holiday since 1941, but the tradition of Independence Day celebrations goes back to the 18th century and the American Revolution.  From 1776 to today, the 4th of July has been celebrated as the beginning of American independence from the rulers of England.
  • TRADITIONS:  During this time many of us celebrate with going to fireworks shows, concerts, parades, family gatherings, swimming, and BBQ's .  Some communities allow us to buy and set off our own fireworks in our neighborhood.  If your community allows fireworks, make sure there is an adult present and always have a water-hose nearby in case of an unexpected emergency!
  • WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON THE 4th OF JULY? :  Write about your activities in a journal and share your 'Fourth of July' celebration when we return.
